Try
the Apples, Adam
Raster art
Corel Painter IX.5 and Photoshop CS2, Wacom Tablet 6x8
“Try the Apples, Adam” was created in Photoshop CS2 and
Corel Painter IX.5. The image is of a young woman, “Eve”,
sitting semi-provocatively and offering an apple to the viewer, “Adam”.
The birth of this piece started with a blurry just-woken glance at the
shapes of the plaster on my wall; I swore I saw a woman looking over
her shoulder and holding an apple, her hair in a pony-tail. This image
was so strong in my head that I just had to draw it up. First off, I
did some little sketches, but I was having trouble with the proportions
of her body – I also extended the image to include the lower half
of her body. I finally remembered a model friend of mine sent me a picture
of her in a similar position, so I used her image as reference. A friend
in the Animation department helped me with the final touches on the sketch
and line art, as well as showing me some time-saving techniques for colouring,
which I implemented.
I owe Samantha Larson a ton of thanks; she’s helped move my drawing
and colouring skills so far in such a short amount of time. I did the base
colouring in Photoshop, and all the details, highlights and shadows in
Painter, as well as the line art. This is one of my favourite pieces; I
love the mischievous suggestion of biblical Eve’s tempting of Adam
with fruit from the Tree of Knowledge.
