Heartband Straps
Rastor/Vector Art
Painter IX.5, Photoshop CS2, and Illustrator CS2
This is a desktop wallpaper advertising “Heartband Revolution”,
an art community at deviantArt. I wanted to do something for my friend,
who started the group. She is trying to spread love and art, and the
love of art, through her community. I experimented with an elongated
human form, and stylised colouring.
First, I started off with a pencil sketch, which I scanned into the
computer, and tried colouring in Photoshop. However, I wasn’t getting
the effect or style I wanted, so I decided to crack open Corel Painter
IX.5, which I had never used before. Learning how to use Painter effectively
was the only challenge, but my friend, who created “Heartband Revolution”,
helped me a great deal, since it was her art and community that inspired
this piece.
I drew the line art, then systematically filled in each piece of
colour by the section of the body to be coloured. Then I added highlights
and shadows where needed and finished the pieces with a smudged, reddened
background brush and layered effects. Then, I took a vector graphic I did
for a “CD cover” for the same community, played around with
various effects in Photoshop, and compiled it with the two figures.
