This self-portrait uses only letterforms and words—I chose to express myself in a clean, simple font Century Gothic, and in words describing my personality, my appearance, and my thoughts about life.

I started off this project writing strings of sentences about myself, and doing quick, stylised sketches of my portrait. Since I could only use letterforms, I was constantly thinking about the shapes in my face, and how to represent them in letters. I chose parenthesis for my nose, lower lip, and the bridge of my glasses, square brackets for my glasses, a fun “a” for my eyes, an “r” for the side of my face and neck, and a reflected question mark for my ear. I created the rest of the piece with the strings of words I wrote down before.
